Penny Couch

My name is Penny Couch. I am a Primary School Principal at Woodcrest State College in Springfield, Queensland, Australia. Woodcrest State College is a P-12 College of 1800 students. I have been the Principal of the Primary sub-school for 6 years. We have 800 students from Prep to Year 6. I have actually been at the college since 2002, having transferred in as a classroom teacher. I have since held many positions within the school, including Support Teacher, Head of Curriculum, Deputy Principal, Associate Principal and Head of School.

In 2019, as a member of the Queensland Association for State School Principals (QASSP), I was fortunate to be part of a study group to the States where we visited many organisations, including educational institutions (schools and universities) and corporate technology giants, such as Apple, Microsoft and Amazon. It was during this tour that I met Jamie Fluke at Dayton High and saw the amazing, innovative pedagogies being implemented within her school and new this was something I needed to explore at Woodcrest when I returned home.
